Jane Caporal, along with 5 other Row Venice instructors and voga veneta champions who rowed with members of the Richmond Bridge Boat Club in the 2018 Vogalonga (the 30km rowing event held in Venice each spring) traveled across the Channel this weekend. They are participating in a sporting/cultural exchange—including their first lesson in sit-down rowing along the beautiful autumn Thames.
Thanks also to Sylvia Wicks for hosting us in her two dgħajjes (the rare, traditional Maltese water taxi) and the chance to try these unusual boats, normally rowed with two people standing up, Venetian style, and two sitting down, facing them.
Tomorrow we are all headed to Oxford for the rowing we know best, the Voga alla Veneta.
Wow! I just saw this! I have to say how proud I am to have had Jane Caporal as my Voga instructor while I visited Venice in March 2014. I also witnessed her compete in the Regatta dell Donna that week-end. I am so thankful for her suggestions on what to see and do during my stay. Mille graze, to Jane and all you wonderful women in this sport.
(I’m currently viewing a DVD about 4 women who rowed across the Pacific Ocean! It’s a 92 minute documentary called “Losing Sight of Shore”; a Spiritual Cinema Circle, part of the Gaia Family)
