Has anyone ever fallen in?<\/h4>\r\nNever! Our lovely batella boats are stable, spacious and deep; the only way you\u2019ll ever end up in the water is if you jump in on purpose.\r\n
How many people can fit in a boat?<\/h4>\r\nEach rare batelina<\/em> holds up to four people. If you have 3 children under 10 years old, you may book for four people, but list your children\u2019s ages in Tell Us More. PLEASE NOTE: For safety reasons, if the instructor deems that the group is older, larger, or heavier than the equivalent of four adults, one person will have to stay behind.\r\n\r\nIf you have 5 people you will need two boats, also to allow plenty of rowing time for each person. We do keep boats close together for groups, this provides good photo ops as well. There is a possibility of a 5 person boat with 2 instructors for the same cost as two boats; request it when you make your booking and if it's available, we'll substitute that batela for the other two.\r\n
What should we wear?<\/h4>\r\nJust wear loose, comfortable clothing and flexible shoes. On summer afternoons, it can be very warm, so bring a hat, perhaps an umbrella, and some water with you (we\u2019ll have some, too). When it\u2019s cool, layers are the key, because when you row you\u2019ll warm up immediately, when you sit and ride while your companion rows, you\u2019ll cool off just as quickly.\r\n

How do I get there from my hotel?<\/h4>\r\nSee the above response. Check with your hotel staff IF the know Venice well (some are from the mainland, and do not know the city).\r\n\r\nWe would allow at least 60 minutes from San Marco or Castello, depending on whether you\u2019re walking or taking the vaporetto; the normal meeting point is 10 minutes from the Ca\u2019 d\u2019Oro or San Marcuola vaporetto stops.\r\n
What happens if it rains?<\/h4>\r\nUnless you want to help your instructor bail out the boat afterward, we can\u2019t row in the rain. High winds (20km \/ hr and above) may also prevent us from conducting the lesson.\r\n\r\nIn the event of intemperate weather, please check email and\/or text messages as we attempt to reschedule your lesson (it helps to have a a few days in Venice in this case). If we have to cancel definitively, we will refund your payment.\r\n

My friend\/spouse\/companion would like to come along and watch.<\/h4>\r\nThat\u2019s fine, just be aware that the fare is calculated for the number of people in the boat, whether they row or not.\r\n
I am above-average weight\/height. Can I still row?<\/h4>\r\nAgility is more important than weight. You need to be limber enough to get in and out of the boat, and shift around easily once you\u2019re rowing as you trade places with your companions, etc.\r\n

Why do you keep nagging me about a cell phone?<\/h4>\r\nVenice is a confusing city, even for us locals. We want to know you're on your way if you're late, and be able to give you more directions should you need them, and let you know if there are weather problems. We won\u2019t contact you unless we need to, but if you are late, with a cell we can try and track you down, and if you get lost, you\u2019ll only need to give a call or text, and we\u2019ll guide you in.
